A Little League fights to stay alive

He put the fliers in local elementary schools and took out an ad in the St. Petersburg Times.

In order to make the league free, Carson had to come up with some money. He estimates the cost per player is $125, which includes insurance and uniforms. With 50 kids currently signed, that's $6,250 that needs to be covered.

He solicited donations from two local McDonald's, which came through with $1,000 each. The rest of the money comes from Carson. He said 5 percent of sales from his water purification business, as well as fundraisers from his other team, the St. Petersburg Hurricanes travel softball team, will help fund Meadowlawn this season. He will also solicit other local businesses for sponsorships. Registration continues today and Saturday at the complex behind Lynch Elementary.

CAP pals honored for mentoring kids

Bill Halpin spends one lunch hour a week at Hawthorne School, hanging out on the playground with the boys who like to play football and soccer.

ERIK PETERSEN/CHRONICLE Hawthorne School fifth-graders Jaren Olson, left, and Mike Galli pose for a photo with their CAP mentors Nicole Wood and Bill Halpin at the school Monday. Daughters of ex-Red Wing show up on 'Idol'

Alyonka and Diana Larionov, daughters of former Detroit Red Wings great Igor Larionov, didnt get any ice, er, vocal time on Tuesday nights American Idol, but it seems as if theyve made it through to the shows Hollywood round.

The singing sisters, whove performed the National Anthem at hockey games, popped up for a few seconds at the end of Tuesday nights episode, during a montage of people from the auditions in Omaha, Neb., who nabbed golden tickets to Hollywood.

Of Tattoos, Naps and iPods in the Office

The gloves that Susan Little wears each winter were a Christmas gift from her husband in 1965. Now, many of the employees who work for Little in the student financial aid office at the University of Georgia are far younger than her gray and navy blue hand warmers, and as a manager, she regularly confronts issues raised by the generation gap.

Hairless fakers, take note. Bald is in charge.

Somewhere in America, Stanley Tucci is yelling at his agent. Bruce Willis is crying in the arms of his latest hot young girlfriend, Ben Kingsley is planning some passive resistance and Patrick Stewart is setting his phaser on "stun."

Timothy Olyphant plays Agent 47, the bald assassin in the new action movie "Hitman." The controversy? Why have the well-coiffed Olyphant shave his head when there are so many bald actors who are perfect for the role?

Casting a haired actor to portray the iconic bald video game character is like hiring one of the Olsen twins to play Mama Cass in a Mamas & the Papas biopic. And it's not the type of thing that the offended parties will just ignore. One thing about bald dudes: Years of dealing with sunburns, razor accidents and hearing bad Mr.
